SEND

At South Stoke Primary we are committed to helping every child succeed and achieve their full potential. We recognise that every single child is different, with their own unique talents, but every child is equally precious.

We know that children come to school with different strengths and experiences and at some point, many children may find some aspects of school challenging. These may be academic, social, behavioural or emotional challenges.

At our school, we share an inclusive ethos and a commitment to supporting all children.

Identification, assessment and provision

The school will follow the guidance contained within the Oxfordshire County Council document Identifying and Supporting Special Educational Needs (OCC 2014).

Where learners are not making expected progress and are significantly behind their peers, evidence is gathered from school, home and the learner themself to make a detailed assessment of need and put in place appropriate support. For those with the most complex needs, an Education Health and Care (EHC) plan will be agreed.

Admission of pupils with SEND

In accordance with legal requirements, children who have an Educational, Health and Care Plan naming the school in that plan will always be admitted. Children with disabilities who need to be admitted to a school on the grounds of physical accessibility have a priority in the school’s Admission Policy.

Access and provision for pupils with disabilities

In its day-to-day operation, the school will work to

  • Promote equality of opportunity for disabled pupils to all aspects of school life
  • Eliminate discrimination and harassment
  • Use every opportunity to promote positive attitudes towards people with a disability
  • Encourage participation by people with a disability in the life of the school
  • Take steps to meet the needs of people with a disability, even if this requires reasonable adjustments to be made
  • Ensure that all staff are appropriately trained and have access to and the support of relevant outside agencies.
  • Monitor the progress of pupils with a disability

Please see the school’s SEND policy for more details.
